Dreaming From Below: Autonomias Rebeldes in the Bay Area

Exhibition Dates: January 11- February 1, 2025. 

EastSide Arts Alliance will host an exhibition of prints by Jesus Berraza, Melanie Cervantes and Gilda Posada celebration Enero Zapatista, a month-long series of events on Ohlone territory ( San Francisco Bay Area) commemorating the Zapatista January 1st uprising in 1994.

The exhibition called Dreaming From Below: Autonomias Rebeldes in the Bay Area will run from January 11- February 1, 2025. 

Enero Zapatista is organized autonomously by a group of individuals, organizations, and spaces. The aim is to gather and form connections through Zapatismo and the Zapatista struggle, across calendars and geographies.To meet and build with folks working towards Zapatista autonomy locally. From art, education, food, to land struggles, come for awesome political discussions and cultural celebrations!

Megaprojects of Death: Lithium Mining and Indigenous Resistance

Date: Saturday, January 18

The Center for Interdisciplinary Environmental Justice (CIEJ) presents two short films about Indigenous resistance to lithium mining in Argentina and Nevada (USA) in the name of

greenwashing eco-capitalism and false climate solutions. Mining for minerals and metals to produce technologies, such as electric car batteries, is part of the global megaprojects of

death that continues to displace Indigenous communities and destroy land, water and life. Following both short films, representatives from both regions will present their current struggles.

Celebrate the culmination of Enero Zapatista

5:00 pm: Childcare Circle—Children’s reading and music activities inspired by Zapatista practices. Childcare provided by Enero Zapatista members.


6:30 pm: Panel Discussion—Autonomías Rebeldes / Rebellious Autonomies. Local organizers and artists discuss building rebellious autonomy in the Bay Area.


7:30 - 10:00 pm: Live musical performances!
