Eastside Arts Alliance
2277 International Blvd, Oakland, CA 94606
FREE community event, refreshments served
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the anti-Vietnam War movement in California established connections with GI resistance and anti-war movements in Japan and Okinawa, both of which were strategic bases for the US military. In this event, Japanese sociologist and activist Mitsuaki Ono will discuss how the anti-war movement in California linked to various struggles in Japan and Okinawa, and how its efforts to halt the war intersected with the Black Power movement, the Women’s Liberation movement, and the decolonization movement.
Speakers: Mitsuaki Ono (Associate Professor, University of Shiga Prefecture, Japan), Judith Mirkinson (National Lawyers Guild), and Wesley Ueunten (Professor, Asian American Studies Department, San Francisco State University)
