Join us for the first two performances in our 2025 LiveArts in Resistance (LAIR) performance series! Created by Skywatchers and Music Director Melanie DeMore with contributing artists Jennifer Johns and Valerie Troutt and guest performers Peekaboo, Maya Nixon, Frances Sedayao
For blind and visually impaired audience members, EastSide Arts Alliance partners with Gravity Access Services to offer live audio description and haptic access tours for selected performances. February 9th, 3pm Toward Opulence: the Opera audio description is a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer to audience members with visual impairments through a wireless headset system. It provides clear and engaging descriptions of the meaningful visual details of a performance. Haptic access tours (20-30 minutes) are a live pre-show tour that allows patrons to experience—through touch and their own movement— the space, performers, costumes and objects in addition to key movement elements in the performance.

Towards Opulence, the Opera is part of an ongoing act of creative resistance and imaginative reclamation. Skywatchers believe that Tenderloin residents, and other marginalized people, are the truth tellers of our society, akin to the mythical Cassandras. By breathing life into often overlooked or discredited truths, we remember our interdependence and expose the roots of power and oppression. An act of bold reclamation, Towards Opulence invites us to conjure and claim our most audacious and glorious selves and step into a future where we truly belong to each other.
